Nieuwjaar (Ano Novo /New Year)
On the first day of the year (after drinking champagne and eating 12 passas around midnight), we ate Caldo Verde, the most famous portuguese soep. If you click on the link, you can read the recipe in english. Caldo Verde is served on a typical tigela de barro.

Oh thanks for the photos, I was curious about the bacalhau! I'll check out the recipe. I love the idea of the roupa velha. It's very cool to have special dishes for the festivities, isn't it?
You also have the 12 passas on Christmas Eve? No grapes? In Argentina it's raisins that we have, but because it's summer and there are no grapes yet.
Beijo.
Raisins, indeed :) and a wish for each ;)
Besos
Oh Sandra, you are so kind to come to visit my cold world here! I do not know what book the Camus quote comes from; I just had it written down from college days and I verified it on line....but no reference to a certain book. Isn't that a wonderful truth? OH and I was looking at your incredible food and your meat stew...we have one similar called Ropa Vieja!!! Small world...Bisous ma chère amie, Anita
