Deventer, 18 and 19th of December 2010

Dickens Festijn

Since the last twenty years, Charles Dickens 19th century lives again in the picturesque Bergkwartier in Deventer.

We went there this Saturday to enjoy this gezellige sfeer...

More than 900 figures from Dickens famous books crossed the streets of this old Dutch city of the Overijssel:

The funniest moment of all?

When we met Scrooge, the main character in Charles Dickens's 1843 novel, A Christmas Carol,

as well as the Ghost of the Christmas Yet to Come:

We also visited the beautiful St. Nicholas Church :-)
There, surprise, surprise, we sang in DUTCH "Silent Night", as well as other Christmas songs. :-))
I will treasure this moment FOREVER! ;-)) Fantastic!! ;-)

There, after singing in DUTCH, we attended a Scottish music group ;-) Very good!

Was this a dream?

I know when I went to sleep,

I was singing "Silent Night" in Dutch ;-))

"Stille nacht, Heilige nacht
Slaap gerust, sluimer zacht..."

"Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright..."

Beautiful! And very close to Zwolle. I've never been to this event bec. my husband always says it's too crowded, nowhere to park, etc. If I had know you were coming, I could've met you there. Next time.... :D

Hi, Aledys :-)

Next time, for sure! It will be such a fun! :-)

I only realised that Deventer was close to Zwolle when we got there.
Don't worry about parking the car. We can leave it nearby the centrum and then we take a gratis bus to the city center.
We only arrived there about 16.30 (Saturday is always a busy day: shopping, etc).
Many people there, but we could walk easily, not good enough to take good pics, but it was ok.
I just heard about this Festijn in the end of the week.
Almost I didn't go...
