Zaragoza, Spain

Zaragoza, Spain

We arrived there in the evening, coming from Segovia...

Zaragoza, situated on the river Ebro, is the capital of Aragon, an autonomous Spanish community.

We had our dinner in front of the Basilica-Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar, praised as Mother of the Hispanic Peoples by Pope John Paul II.

This Cathedral is reputed to be the first church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

According to the local tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared miraculously, in the first century, standing on a pillar, to Saint James the Great.

Today, 12 October, Zaragoza celebrates "Las Fiestas del Pilar".

Also today, Spain celebrates El Día de la Hispanidad (Columbus Day, literally Hispanic Day), since it's the day of the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus in 1492.

Here, two photos of the Cathedral surroundings...

I made this video on the following day, after visiting the Cathedral....

Bjs!! ;-)

Goede morgen!
How sad this is the last post about your vacation. Very beautiful pictures and I can imagine they bring back nice memories of all the wonderful things you saw this summer.
Your background picture takes me back to times spent in Switzerland, so we all keep dreaming on about Europe through your pictures.

Thanks for your enthousiastic comment on my Japanese teacup post. Your advise is very much appreciated and I have visited the website of the museum. In the mean time I found info on Wikepidia on 'lithopane', a 3 dimensional way of adding pictures to china. Highly interesting. I have added a link to this info on the post, and also added two more detailed pictures.

I am looking forward to your next posts, no doubt about the fabulous places where you have been.
Fijne dag en geniet van de zon!
Hartelijke groeten van Jacoba

Andei aqui a deliciar-me com estas cidades espanholas.

Beijinhos! Obrigada por vires sempre ;-)
