Easter, Sun and Spring

Tina Turner, GoldenEye

Everything ok around here. Just enjoying the sun and the Easterdays (Sunday and Monday).
We went to the Keukenhof yesterday. I will share the photos with you as soon as possible.
Sunday was a very warm day too and we went to Katwijk aan Zee, a beautiful beach nearby the city of Leiden. However, when we arrived there, it was very windy and we just stayed in de terrace eating bitterballen and drinking bitter lemon.
Saturday we had a very nice BBQ with friends in their acthertuin (backyard). Gezellig! ;-)
Friday afternoon was "Sandra's time"! ;-)
My lunch was great! I enjoyed a boerenomelet at the Beren, sitting on the terrace in front of the lake.
Then I went to the kapsalon (the hairdresser) and to the schoonheidssalon (beauty salon) to prepare myself for the Spring.
In the evening, we went to the Japanese restaurant Kimono in Almere Stad to taste the new sushis. Lekker! Absolutely delicious! No photos, I'm afraid! Next time! :-) I was too lazy, sorry! :-)
The day before, Friday evening, about 18 o'clock, we went to Almere Haven, the oldest Almere's district, to enjoy a Salada Julia in de restaurant Krab aan de Haven. Then we went for a walk, enjoying a delicious Mariola icecream.
This was a very good week! :-)
You know how Dutch sunny weeks are: a lot of outdoor activities! Walking, bicycling, sailing, going to the beach, staying in a gezellig terrace, laying down in the park or in the backyard, enjoying the sun or making picnics and BBQ's! Each day is a celebration!
Oh, I love Spring in the Netherlands!!

Marillion, Easter

A ghost of a mist was on the field
The grey and the Green together
The noise of a distant farm machine
Out of the first light came
A tatered necklace of hedge and trees
On the southern side of the hill
Betrays where the border runs between
Where Mary Dunoon's boy fell
Easter here again
A time for the Blind to see
Easter
Surely now can all of your hearts be free
Out of the port of Liverpool
Bound for the North of Ireland
The wash of the spray and horsetail waves
The roll of the sea below
And Easter here again
A time for the Blind to see
Easter
Surely now can all of your hearts be free
What will you do?
Make a stone of your Heart?
Will you set things right
When you tear them apart?
Will you sleep at night
With the Plough and the Stars alight?
What will you do?
With the wire & the gun?
That'll set things right
When it's said and done?
Will you sleep at night?
Is there so much love to hide?
Forgive
Forget
Sing 'Never again'

To celebrate this sunny week

Duran Duran, Save a Prayer

Bazar Restaurant

Do you remember Bazar restaurant? That one located in Albert Cuypstraat in De Pijp where we like to have dinner when we go to Amsterdam?

From De Pijp

I've already shown you our main dish: Bizar Bazar vlees (meat/carne)

From De Pijp

Now let me show you this muslim restaurant which used to be a synagoge...

We arrived there at 18.30 without reservation. So we went to the bar to have a drink.

From De Pijp

Meanwhile, we were enjoying the place...

This is the lift for the food. The restaurant has a first floor...

From De Pijp

...where we got a place after waiting for 30 minutes.

From De Pijp

Besides the food and the friendly waiters, what I like the most in this restaurant is the decoration ;-)

What do you think about it? :-)

Ah, there is a menukaart in Portuguese, if you prefer! :-) two of the waiters are Portuguese.

The Sarphati Park

As I promised, the Sarphati Park photos. Enjoy!! :-)

From De Pijp

Located in De Pijp, this park is named after the Jewish doctor and philanthropist Samuel Sarphati (1813-1866).

From De Pijp

Sarphati's ancestors were Portuguese Sephardi Jews who arrived in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

From De Pijp

He worked as a doctor in Amsterdam, after studying Medicine in Leiden.

From De Pijp

Sarphati became a philantropist when he realised the bad hygiene conditions among the poor in Amsterdam.

From De Pijp

He became responsible for several projects to improve the quality of life in the city and the health of its inhabitants.

From De Pijp

Public health, education, industrialization and city planning were his main interests.

From De Pijp

The Palace of National Industry, the InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam (Amstel Hotel), a bread factory which produced more affordable bread for the poor and the city's refuse collection service are among his most known projects.

Have a nice week! :-)
